Recommendation for Homebound services for students with special needs is a IEP Committee decision. Whether or not Homebound services will meet the student’s Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) will be reviewed by the IEP committee. Homebound Special Education Teachers are approved by the West Point School Board on annual bases. Upon assignment, the Homebound teacher will participate during the IEP meeting. Throughout the service process, the teacher will communicate with general education and parents. Time and location are flexible and should be convenient for all involved. A public meeting place, such as the library, is often preferred, if the student is medically able to meet outside of the home.Homebound services should not be thought of as a permanent education placement. The school environment cannot be replicated in the homebound setting. When a student receives homebound services for an extended period of time, the family must update medical information as needed.
